Supporting students in Ashby St Ledgers with their GCSE and IGCSE studies, I, David, combine a Bachelor’s degree in Education and more than twenty years of experience with an authoritative knowledge of the secondary curriculum. Feedback from parents serves as a professional validation of the standards maintained in my lessons, where I help students address the requirements of major boards like AQA and Edexcel. For primary applicants in the village, I offer preparation for the 11 plus and 13 plus examinations. Pupils from schools like Welton Primary or Staverton Primary often have their sights set on a place at Lawrence Sheriff School or Rugby School. Our lessons address the initial screening process, covering verbal reasoning, synonyms and antonyms, and GL multiple-choice papers. As the candidate moves toward the written assessments, the curriculum addresses reading comprehension by focusing on inference and deduction. Creative writing techniques are developed to improve descriptive depth, ensuring that stories are engaging and well-structured.

The English Language syllabus addresses both the interpretation of non-fiction analysis and the production of original writing. When evaluating writers’ perspectives in an article or a report, the student identifies textual clues to track an argument across different cohesive devices. A student might use a metaphor to describe an idea through a more familiar image, which adds layers of meaning to their persuasive writing. To manage the flow of a narrative piece, a writer could employ polysyndeton by using several coordinating conjunctions in succession to create a feeling of persistence. These sessions ensure that students attending secondary schools such as Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village refine their audience awareness and ensure their tone and register are appropriate for the task.

The study of Literature requires a detailed interpretation of central themes and character motivations within modern drama and regency fiction. A student may explore the social responsibility and political themes found in J.B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls, examining how the playwright uses dramatic irony to challenge the perspectives of the characters. We also look at the presentation of social hierarchy and reputation within Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The work involves analysing quotations and exploring how authorial intent is reflected in the structural devices of the play or the narrative arc of the novel. By practising extract questions, the learner identifies how specific linguistic devices contribute to the overall thematic links of the text. Identifying areas for improvement through a thorough review of homework helps the student build the clear expression required to reach top results.

If you want a serious professional who can lift a student immediately, who knows the board requirements for doing well, and who can tailor tuition to the precise needs of the kid, then David is the man. My son is bright, but he was not well taught in English. David turned it all around within a matter of weeks and set him on track to a great GCSE grade. Don't mess around - go with David. Highly recommend.

David

David tutored our daughter  for 11+ English. I always found him to be very professional, organised and methodical in his approach. He always had a good supply of appropriate material that challenged her and pushed her to the next level. The two of them clicked very quickly and our daughter progressed very well. David is friendly and related well with her. Our daughter really enjoyed her sessions with him. She was accepted by all the top private and grammar schools that we applied to.

Priti

David has been helping my son prepare for his 11+ exams. We got started with extra tuition quite late, however already during this time I have noticed a big difference in my son’s attitude and study technique. He has significantly improved his creative writing and also his understanding of how to tackle verbal and non-verbal reasoning style questions. David is helpful and accommodating as a teacher and I am very happy to recommend him and his approach to teaching.
