GCSE English & Entrance Exams Tutor Ferring

Ferring is a community where high standards of literacy are valued, and many students seek to excel in their English studies at both primary and secondary levels. My name is David, and with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and over two decades of experience, I provide comprehensive English tuition for students in the area. The study of English Literature involves a deep engagement with the themes and structures of classic and modern works. In the transactional writing section, a learner might be asked to draft a speech or a formal letter, where they could use an analogy to explain a complex idea. While transactional formats prioritise clarity, the syllabus also celebrates more evocative expression, meaning a creative task could require onomatopoeia to create a specific auditory effect. Imaginative writing also allows for the use of sibilance to create a specific atmosphere in a story or descriptive piece. We work on comparing writers’ perspectives in both fiction and non-fiction analysis, ensuring that the student can identify how language techniques are used to shape meaning. I have received a great deal of positive feedback regarding my students' ability to produce clear and persuasive prose across all areas of the curriculum.

For younger pupils at Ferring CE Primary, the focus is often on building a strong basis for entry into competitive secondary schools such as Lancing College or Shoreham College. This preparation encompasses advanced comprehension questions and the development of a wide-ranging vocabulary, alongside the verbal reasoning skills required for many entrance examinations. We work on creative writing techniques, ensuring that students can produce a compelling narrative using figurative language and varied sentence structures. By reviewing homework and practising with past exam papers, children learn to manage the pressures of the assessment window with confidence. My students consistently secure places at top schools, a testament to their hard work and the professional guidance they receive during these formative years of their education.
